Hanoi Opera House is one of the most ancient theaters you should take a short visit to when traveling to Hanoi, Vietnam. Hanoi Opera House – an ideal place for a fan of operas, dramas, ballets, symphonies, etc.

Opened in 1911 after 10 years of construction by French colonialists, Hanoi Opera House is now one of Hanoi’s cultural centers where art shows, concerts, dance, opera performances, international meetings and conferences often take place. If you are a fan of dramas, ballets, symphonies or operas, Hanoi Opera House is a good choice. However, you should check the internet to ensure that a performance is scheduled and book tickets in advance as these shows are quickly sold-out.


It was modeled on the Palais Garnier, the older of Paris's two opera houses, and is considered to be one of the architectural landmarks of Hanoi. After the departure of the French the opera house became the scene for several political events. as well as the scene of street fighting during the fight for Hanoi.

The Hanoi Opera House provides the names for the neighboring Hilton Hanoi Opera Hotel which opened in 1999, as well as for the MGallery Hotel de l'Opera Hanoi, which opened in 2011. For historical reasons associated with the Vietnam war, the Hilton Hanoi Opera Hotel was not named the Hanoi Hilton.
